History of Camas, WA
The town of Camas was named after the camas lily, a plant held in high regard by the indigenous peoples for its onion-like bulb. The roots of Camas can be traced back to the 1880s when the LaCamas Colony Company chose this location to build a paper mill. The establishment of a post office and school followed in 1884, and Camas officially became a town in June 1906. The Georgia Pacific Camas Mill still operates to this day and remains a key part of the local Camas economy. Today Camas has become a prosperous area offering many white-collar jobs due to the influx of high-tech companies, such as Sharp Microelectronics, Linear Technologies, WaferTech, and more
