Located in the northwest corner of Clark County, La Center is situated near the east for of the Lewis River. A rural setting, La Center’s population hovers around 3,000. A 20-minute drive down Interstate 5, La Center is also 35 minutes away from downtown Portland.
However, entertainment will soon be coming to La Center. The Ilani Casino Resort is set to open in the Spring of 2017. Featuring a 100,000 square foot gaming floor – which include slot machines, table games and more – the Ilani Casino will also have several restaurants, bars and retail shops on the premises. Currently, La Center is home to three cardamoms: The Palace, New Phoenix and Last Frontier casinos.
The School District consists of an elementary, middle and high schools, but there are other options for education, such as the La Center Home School Academy. The tuition-free, K-12 program understands the standard schooling model doesn’t work for every student. The Academy provides resources for those families where parents are the first and most important educators for their children.
Homes in La Center run the gamut – million dollar mansions on acreage all the way to starter homes under $200,000. Many of these homes are located to one of the four La Center parks: Elmer Soehl (playground, picnic tables), Heritage (Halfcourt basketball, restrooms, swings, and picnic tables located on part of 6.5 acre wetland area), Sternwheeler (featuring an amphitheater), and Holley.
Holley Park, located next to the La Centers schools and library, has the most features of any park in La Center. A splash pad, skate path, sports fields, playgrounds, and more are contained here.
